Updates from the Principal

It’s hard to believe winter is just around the corner, and our class and community programs are up and running. This fall was filled with many experiences across our school, classrooms, and community—from a very well-attended barbecue, field trips, sports events, parent conferences, and pumpkin patch visits. I’m grateful to the Edmonds school and broader community for coming together to create such a vibrant, inclusive environment for learning. Families are reminded that electric scooters are not permitted for use on public roads in Burnaby, as the city is not part of BC’s electric kick scooter pilot project. This means students should not ride or store e-scooters at school. In communities that are part of the pilot, riders must be at least 16 years old, but Burnaby currently has no designated areas for e-scooter use.

We will be hosting Parent/Caregivers -Teacher Meetings on Thursday, September, 25th. Parents, caregivers, staff, and teachers are all partners in each child’s social, emotional and intellectual development. Meeting early in the year allows you and the teacher to talk about your child’s social and emotional needs and how we can work together to support your child. Any concerns that you have about your child’s academic development can also be brought to the attention of the teacher at this time. In December, the first written report will be issued. The Parent/Caregivers/Teacher conference is for parents/caregivers only. This is also the time to talk about goals and hopes for the school year.

We would also like to remind our Edmonds families that we will have a community BBQ on Thursday, Sept. 25st from 2:00 – 5:30. There will also be a chance to sign up for Afterschool Programs in our small gym at this time.

Students will be dismissed at 1:48 p.m. on Thursday, September 25th and at 1:48 p.m. on Friday, September 26th

Welcome back! I hope the summer months offered you time to rest, reconnect, and enjoy meaningful moments with loved ones. As we step into a new school year, I’m filled with excitement and gratitude to be part of such a vibrant, caring, and  diverse community. For our families and staff, whether you’re returning or joining us for the first time, we are excited to welcome you to the community. We have a number of new staff as we as staff members returning from leave. We are looking forward to another school year at Edmonds Community School.
